More than $400 million in waste recycling will be available to fund new projects in the ACT

More than 40 per cent of the waste recycling industry in the Capital Region is currently unregulated, with a lack of clarity and accountability around how to fund waste recycling projects, says the ACCC.

Recycling is a process whereby waste is taken out of landfills, landfiller plants and other industrial facilities and placed in a landfill, often a landfill with toxic waste.

Recycled material can be recycled into a new product, for example plastics.

Recycle materials that are not recyclable and that are destined for the landfill.

Recycling of waste in a commercial setting is usually not an option.

What is a waste recycler?

A waste recycer is a person or business that collects, recycles and sells recycled materials, including paper, cardboard, metals and wood, according to the Australian Government.

Recreationists collect, reuse and distribute the recycled material, and may charge a fee for the recycling.

Recipients pay a fee to the company to collect, recycle and sell the recycled materials to the public.

Recipes can be purchased at recycling retailers, but these must be approved by the ACCCs consumer advisory body.
