Waste recycling scheme in Southampton to expand to include the South East

Southampton’s waste recycling scheme is expanding to include more than the South West, with the council expecting to sign up up at least a third of the borough’s recycling targets.

Southampton’s waste collection and recycling authority (CREC) will now work with a number of recycling partners to expand its target of 80 per cent by 2025.

The council has been looking to add more recycling targets to its list of priorities to help tackle climate change, and is aiming to see a 30 per cent increase in the number of households recycling by 2025, up from 20 per cent in the next four years.

CREC is currently planning to work with the Waste Management Group, Waste Management, and the National Waste Network to further expand its current recycling targets, with CREC expecting the new target to be in place by 2021.
